Default 5.3 Head work

I wanted to get some Head work done on my 5.3 truck motor. The folks at the shop are concerned that I might get a ping if I mill the head a little. How much can you get by with before the Knock censer retards the timing? <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

The 5.3 is a 9.5 to 1 ratio stock. The LS1 cars run 10.1 to 1 stock. I think you could mill it .030 and get compression around 10:1 and not have ping. The escalade runs a 10:1 ratio. You may need to run higher oct gas than 87 though.
