I have a cam from a 01 denali 6.0. Does anyone know the specs on this cam. What mods would I have to do to install it in my 99 silverado 5.3. Would this require computer tuning or just drilling the TB? Also what gains could be made. The truck is otherwise bone stock.

You would see a gain, but not too noticeable. No tuning needed. No springs needed. No TB drilling. It would just catch you up to the "285 hp" rating that the 00+ 5.3 trucks came with from the "270 HP" rating your on your 99. Like really slow said, probably not worth it.
Any number of after market cams will help you out, but they get pricey. I have an 01 LS6 cam in my 99 truck. Its cheap. I gained 32 HP from the cam swap and about 10 TQ at peak. From a stop it didn't help a lick, but above 2500 rpms, its very noticeable.

The cam swap can be done in a couple of hours with the correct tools and if the valvesprings do not have to be changed also. All you need to do is remove the water pump, front cover, and valve covers. The best way to do it is to buy magnets to hold each lifter up, otherwise you may end up removing cyl. heads. If the springs need changed it could easily double the time.
