Default 4x4 First mods

Well i am a f-body man by heart but recently aquired a 02 rcsb 4x4 ls z71 truck and was just wondering what some of the first mods are. It does have a 4l80 with 3.73's i am pretty sure. Thinking of staying all motor right now, heads and cam, but some simple bolt ons to get a feel for what i am working with. I would really like brand names, and prices, i also want some of the goodies that will keep me interested in this truck. Not emissions worried, sound worried, or anything else for that matter. Give me the details

thanks
zach

you most likely have a 60e in there unless someone did the swap. Get a tq converter that made the biggest difference in my heavy pig. If had it to do all over again with a 5.3 it would be 3K stall, tune, exhaust, lt headers, intake, nitrous, cam, LS6 intake, and heads last. All in that order. Prices for all that stuff is going to be the same as for an f-body except the conversion for the intake.

Pretty close to what I was going to say.

This is all my opinion and the way I would do things if starting over:

First and foremost, it needs more air. More air = more hp, plain and simple. Get an intake, headers and exhaust.

Second, like 1slow said, these trucks badly lack in the torque department. Get a converter (2600-3000 stall). Fuddle, Precision Industries, or Yank.

Third I would get a cam followed immediately by a tune.

Then I would do the "smaller" stuff: e-fans, pulleys, throttle body, etc.

Again, that's just me.

True. I always forget Allen does free retunes. In that case, yeah, I would get a tune first, then proceed to the other suggestions.

thanks guys you have been a big help. couple more questions if you dont mind. i would really like to know exactly what i need for the ls6 intake swap, i see mixed thoughts on here and would like to know what is the real set up. also what do i do to convert to awd, how hard is it, and how far is it going to set me back in my pocket, this is a long ways away but i really am one of those people that want to start gathering the info now.

thanks

The short answer for getting awd is buying a 4wd or awd truck.

Do a search for the LS6 swap stuff there are a few ways to accomplish it and that is a decision you will have to make as to which way you want to do it.

well, he has a z71. If you want to convert to full time awd like the SS or Denali/Escalade, I think you just have to swap out the transfer case.
