Default 4l60E #2 Gone....

Blew the tranny last night on the 1-2 shift. I have several options. 1) Built 4L80E w/ an approximate cost of $3200+ 2) Fully built 4L60E w/ converter, 1 yr warranty, w/ a cost of $2200+. 3) Stock 4L80E from junk yard, install myself, w/ cost of $2000+. 4) Built 4l60E from member of ls1tech, not used, $1500 w/ no converter and installed myself.

Decisions, decisions. What do you guys think? Plans for motor: 10 lbs of boost, maybe some nos for a total of 500rwhp. No more than that.

Thanks in advance

I suggest a 4l80 of some kind. I am going through the exact same thing right now. I am tired of replacing 4l60e's. I ordered a shift kit, slip yoke, flywheel, etc for a 4l80e. I found a tranny about 300 miles away-going to get that in a couple days. Going to try to have it running by this Sat.

was this a stock one that you blew, i would go 4l80e if you plan on running the truck hard and keeping it.

A stock 4L80E should hold just fine for you man.

I wouldn't even bother with another 4L60E on a blown truck.

Default Possible plan change...

I decided to go with a built 4l60. $3500 isnt really in the budget right now for a nice 4L80 set up. Even if I did it with a couple of buddies, it would cost between $2500-3000.

I think I'm going to give up on making the truck fast. Hell, I'm in the high 13's and went through 2 transmissions and 1 complete rear end within the first 6 months of having the radix. I remember Scream saying something similar about his truck and it got me thinking, what am I doing making a big *** truck faster. I first justified it by saying that it would help me tow th boat better. After I felt the power, it was a sickness that drained my checkbook.

Maybe I will buy a car that is fast from the factory. Fast to me is 13's stock with room for more. I know fast on this website is 11's. I probably have 25,000 into the truck plus its cost new, and another 5000 before its done in my book. Performance mods are an addiction and cost major money when parts start breaking.

Maybe I'm just frustrated and venting. Only time will tell. Thanks for listening.

Ok, I want to be the first to say I told you so when you have more '60e woes. I really do hope you can get some miles out of a 60 but the odds are against it. I used your logic a few months ago before spending $1000 in 60 parts. Again. This is the 3rd time the tranny has bit the dust since putting the supercharged 5.3 in the work truck. This is in 17,000 miles. If you haven't bought a 60 yet, I would reconsider. Just my .02
