Moved to the GM Engine and Exhaust section for you. Just get the cam you want and get a tune. I think it would be a big waste of money to do anything without a good tune.

Look at my signature... Thats a good place to start. I've gained a whole second in a quarter mile since it was stock. I know you have a 4.8L but i'm sure all these things will help you too. Most important is a tune, that will really wake 'er up!! try Nelson or Black Bear... Those would be my recommendations...

To take advantage of any performance part added you need a tune. They just mean it won't throw the engine into limp home mode or flash codes.

Do the basic bolt-ons Intake, headers, exhaust, add some roller rockers, and get a good tune. I meet a guy with those mods and claims about 315 WHP with a 4.8.

I personally believe him since he did a 80 ft burn out with 24's.

Personally i wouldnt believe him to much cuz i have all those things on my 4.8 minus a custom tune, diablo tune is what i have, and i dynoed mine the other weekend to see what i had and i got 260hp and 258tq at the wheels which translates to about 315fwhp....i don believe a tune would make up for the 55hp differance....most ive seen gained out of a tune was 30hp on a bolt on 6.0 minus heads and cam of course

That is possible. Local guy put down over 300 with a cam and bolt ons minus headers. A good tune will make a huge difference.

A good custom tune cannot be compared to a diablo or any other hand-held boxed tune. I can see a 4.8 having 300rwhp with bolt-ons/cam and a good tune easy, 5.3's make ~340hp.

Well yea you start throwin cams and heads at a 4.8 and over three hundred to the wheels is a guarantee. Im not sayin after doin all that is not possible.

What i said was i have everything minus a tune, cam and heads which is what the other guy didnt have either with the exception that he had his tuned. And i only had 260hp with bolt ons without a tune. And what i was saying was i don believe that a custom tune will make up the additional 55hp differance between me and him just cuz his is tuned.

i don believe its possible with something as small as a 4.8 now if ur talkin a bored and stroked mouse or big cubed rat like a LS7 pushed out to 500ci or more or a FI motor than i believe it but its not its a bolt on 4.8 with a tune, cam/heads are not bolt on all thats considered internal. At least it is to old school builders and rodders like myself.

But i could be wrong, if i am id like someone to prove it to me i don mind bein wrong all that means is i learned something. So if one of you tuned ur truck after u did all the bolt ons and came up with over 300whp after tune then by all means prove me wrong lol ill go get my truck tuned tomorrow!!!!

my 4.8 makes around 310 rwhp on motor, and around 420 rwhp on the 125 dry shot.

not sure if it would do a burnout on 24" rims though.

you probably wont make near that without a cam, but you will probably pick up 10-15 hp over that diablo with a good dyno tune, and a lot better performance, better shifting, control when your TC locks up, etc etc.

sure a 6.0 will make lots more power, but you can take a 4.8 pretty far if you have the money. all the parts will swap over to a 6.0 if you ever want to do the swap as well..
