Do you guys think its a good idea to put an 2002 Z06 cam in my little 4.8l?
If not, what cam will get me a noticable amount of power low/mid range and stay pretty stong throughout the RPMs
I plan to get an eaton posi with a set of 4.10 gears... and maybe a stall.. (but not until further down the road)
I really dont want to do major tuning, because i dont think anyone here is corpus christi (that i know of) can help me out. But, I could get it tuned maybe in houston or San Antonio.
Also, should I also get springs and retainers?.. etc.. etc..
Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but any help is appreciated.
thanks, -- joseph

well, that cam has show like a 30 rwhp gain in a 5.3 around here so it should perform pretty well in your 4.8 truck. that cam should definatly have a good top end. you will HAVE to upgrade to atleast the 02 LS6 springs to run that cam. if you are interested in that cam i can hook you up pretty good on one that my boss has outta his 02 z06, with the springs. just email me or PM me if you're interested.

would you guys get the ls6 cam for this little truck, at wwww.sdpc.com they have a LS6 package with cam, springs, etc, etc.. ... OR go with a comp cam with a little more lope?
How would the ls6 cam sound at idle?
Thanks in advanced!

Are you selecting the cam to sound good or run good?I personally would'nt go any bigger than a 212/218/114 Compcam,a 206/212/114 might be a better selection for your 4.8.Remember that you've got to live with it.

guys, the 4.8 can handle just as much cam as the 5.3, there is a 4.8 down here with a bigger cam than mine in it. it's like a 220/220 .540 114 or something close to that and it idles choppy but runs fine...top end is great actually but he has 4.10s and some other mods. the 4.8 would handle an LS6 cam great, and the LS6 cam is great for boost or nitrous if you decide to go with either of those later on.

the LS6 cam peaks at 5800 in a 5.7, its gonna peak in the mid to high 6000 range in a little 4.8... u want a cam that makes little torque down low and all its power over 6000 in a heavy truck? u want torque to move that heavy truck off the line... i'd go with a cam around 206-208 at the most on a 114lsa, like whitt said...
