I'm thinking about getting a LS2 cam and springs and take a day off at work and throw it in my truck. I was reading that the LS2 cam is basically the same as the 01 LS6 cam. You can find LS2 cams all day for about 50 bucks if you look... All you need is a Gen IV front cover and timing chain sproket. Anyway, what kind of power increase would I likely see. My other mods so far are, custom Flowmaster exhaust, K&N FIPK, Electric fans, Corvette Servo. I am saving the tune for after I get the cam in. This would be going in a 2003 Silverado RCSB 4.8L

I may be talking out of my rear here, but I don't believe that an LS2 cam will work in a Gen III engine. An LS1/LS6 based cam can go into a LS2 but not the other way around without modification.

I assume that is what the Gen 4 front cover and timing chain sprocket would be used for.

 

The LS2 cam will work in the Gen III engines. Its the same size physically, it just lacks the reluctor wheel for the cam sensor on the back. The Gen IV's run the cam sensor in the front cover and it reads the cam procket.

Their was a guy on ls1tech that put a LS2 cam in a LS1 and ran fine but it kept throwing the cam sensor code. So to run this cam properly, you would need a Gen IV front cover because it comes with a sensor, and a ls2 timing chain set.

 

in the money and effort spent to make it work, just find an 01 z06 cam for cheap or put in an aftermarket one for $300.

what kind of gains would come of the zo6 cam? z06 swaps into an 02 4.8?

 

If your talking about the 02 Z06 cam I read 40hp @ the crank. I dont know if that sounds right but it helped my ext cab get in the mid 13 s

 

just found another thread, answered my own q. guy put an 02 cam in his 4.8 got about 25hp and 23 lbs ft torque

The ls2 cam is the same thing as the 01 ls6 cam you should see some gain but im not sure to how much you are wanting out of it.
