I'm going to go for it. My truck is a 2000. I understand I should look for a 2001 6.0L or the crankend won't bolt up properly. Is that right?

Default 4.8 to 6.0 swap

[QUOTE=NorCalLightning;255101]I'm not very mechanically enclined but what all is involved in the conversion? Do I need to get a new computer if I swap engines? I currently have a 4.8L '01 Sportside and I don't care for the lack of HP. I would love to get a 6.0L and slap a S/C on it for some serious power.

Where is a good place to get either a standard 6.0L or an Escalade 6.0L engine? Any places online that sell them? What about the tranny, will I need to strengthen it any to handle the increase in HP and torque? What all is involved in doing this? I figure I would get at least 4.10 eaton gears (limited slip) if I do the swap. Any other suggestions?? Dont know where you live but in Fl. 6.0L have become quite expensive. I would look for a wrecked truck or suburban with a 6.0 and buy the whole thing. Then you have the engine , trans, ecm, harness all matched to the vin. I just bought a 2002 Yukon w/rearend damage that has everything for 1200 bucks. Pulled what I needed and sold the interior and driveline for 1600. You do the math, It was a win win.

Sorry for all the question but I figured you guys would be the best to ask! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />[/Q6.0

Make $$ while doing the swap. For what they want for a used 6.0 you can buy a wrecked HD or suburban with the 6.0. I just purchased a 2002 Yukon xl with rearend damage for 1200 bucks from co-part w/ 138,887 mi. Pulled the 6.0 , 4l65 trans, harness, and ecm all matched. Then sold the leather interior and the drive line components for 1600 then scraped the body for 200. You do the math. Its a win win! Got everything I needed and made 600 bucks that paid for headers and a vin flash for the ecm.
