If you beat stock LS-1's by 3 cars or so, you have a good running truck! And if he is beating you by that margin, he has an even better running one! I am not too familar with the 4.8 buildup, but for it to run that good with "minimal" mods, I bet he has nitrous. From my understanding, a stock 4.8 will run about a 15.9-16.0 if not slower.

I think the power programmer could help him a little but if he has 3.42's he isnt gonna beat him now by using the Hypertech. I had 3.42's with all my current mods except n20 and put 4.10's in with a updated tune. That weekend i raced a a reg cab 04' Hemi and I have a 03 4.8 ECSB I beat him by around a truck length but he ran 1/10 better than me. 16.0 vs 16.1--- Got my tune tweaked because shifting right and ran a 15.8 three times the next weekend with same temps. Tell him if he wants to keep the Hypertech to get 4.10's and he should smoke that Dodge

I think my friends driving might have had something to do with the loss to the dodge or atleast it might have been closer. He was manually shifting his auto and he hit the limiter in second right at the end. He was going to get beat anyway but that might have been why the distance was so far.

Come on guys...what are some real mods he can do?
I did say that the 3.42s are one thing that's hurting him. Either get a stall or just lower gears. My HPP3 shaved a full second off of my 1/4 time and yes I have the time slips to prove it to you non-believers.
Another reason is the manual shifting in an auto. Why was he doing that? Let the truck shift by itself.
I think a stall, tune and gears will help your friend get the fastest truck title back

Even before the 212/218 cam went in the 4.8, I demolished ext cab/quag cab Hemis in my RCSB. My guess is that "fuel system" is a little squeeze of juice.

The Comp 212/218 is an awesome cam for the 4.8. I loved mine! It made decent power down low and pulled STRONG up top. Just be sure to get some valvesprings, and I would go ahead and get some chromoly pushrods while I was at it.

Good luck to your buddy!

Headers, HPP3, 160 Thermostat, K&N Cold Air, BBK Throttle Body (makes a BIG difference), exhaust, and a Mass Air sensor took my 5.3 truck down by about 1.5 seconds in the 1/4. I get big kicks out of wasting Hemi's on a regular basis. If he's already got the computer, I would recommend the thermostat as the next locigal (and cheapest) step. The true benefits of the HPP3 aren't realized until you reduce the engine temp, and there is a SIGNIFICANT improvement in low end torque when running both the HPP3 and the stat.

After that, cold air induction and the throttle body are definitely the two biggest things you can do to get air into the engine, followed by headers to go with his exhaust. I've done all of these things already, but not necessarily in that order - and this is the order that I'd recommend as far as bang for your buck is concerned...

Then again, if the kid's got $3000 to burn, why not just supercharge the *****? That's a guaranteed winner, there...

Well, if you want to be more precise, he said the guy has $3500 to blow, and a couple hundred over that could get you a very nice supercharger...

For $3500, I'd get an HPE forged 408 shortblock.
