but if he got a Dart or LSX block for the 408... and sold the 1900 to buy a 2650, we could start talking huge-cube motors
come on, he's already upgraded the trans...

Option 1 seems like a practical start to me. At 132k now would be a good time for lifters, springs, timing chain and cam.

I'd probably leave the oil pump alone--I've read about enough guys swapping it out and ending up with oiling issues. If it's got good oil pressure, no need to replace for now.

Heads can come later when you inevitably get the itch again.

If removing the heads to do lifters (at 188k I have not done this, and Ive been cam'd since 126ish) I would advise doing heads. Then youre only buying bolts, gaskets, coolant, oil, etc 1 time.

I agree with the oil pump, only as needed. 188k on mine, she still idles at 40+ with a new o ring on the pick up.

You can probably get a pull out 6.0 for the price of a decent heads cam setup for the 4.8 and will make gobs more torque. Also can sell that 4.8 while it’s still good and reimburse yourself for the 6.0. Ask me how I know lol been down this rd before

Ok as far as 370 vs 408 I've heard of many guys having issues with piston rock and other issues as a daily driver motor so I had been leaning towards a 370 if I ever go that route. However any Texas Speed motor is 2 or 3 times more expensive than heads and cam or a pullout 6.0.

With that being said I’m leaning towards finding a pull out 6.0 freshening it up with heads, cam, 8 rib and swapping them out maybe in spring or early summer. Would like to stay under 5k. Since I already have a good fuel setup and Atomic for tuning that saves me a ton of money. Plus I’ve never done any motor builds myself and would really like the experience.

Once the swap is done the 4.8 will get a super budget refresh/build and be saved for another project.

On top of that I’ll be getting a big custom heat exchanger made hopefully next month and at the same time install the ice box I’ve had sitting in my garage. Also I’m going to measure for drive shafts maybe this weekend since they are the last untouched part of my drivetrain!
