Default 4.8 to 5.3 swap question

I tryed searchin and the stickies but only found v6 to v8 swaps. Im looking at buyin a silverado pretty soon and a buddy of mine has a 03 seirra with a 4.8 with 170k miles on it hes guna sell pretty cheap. Id like to get it and swap a 5.3 in it. I know alota people swap ls1's into em but another buddy of mine has a 5.3 i can get for pretty much free. I was wonderin if it was just pretty much a basic motor, harness, and computer swap? My plans with it are stock bottom end, small cam, maybe ported heads and intake and a stall (nothing to radical cause it will be my daily driver). Any help is appreciated

I don't even think you need to swap the harness and computer. itll run off the 4.8 programming. just get a tune from someone and itll be fine.

Why not swap a 6.0?

I think you will be disappointed if you just swap a 5.3 in, no matter how good the deal is. Your truck will be just like any other mildly modified 5.3 truck on the road. It's far more interesting to say you have a 6.0. Plus, your truck will have alot more potential in power. Either way, the stock harness and computer will work just fine. You just need to update the parameters in the computer to make it work with the new engine size and mods.

Swap the blocks and flash a 5.3 tune into the PCM and you're good to go...but, as mentioned, since you're going through the trouble to swap engines you might as well swap in a 6.0.

5.3 will make a noticeable difference over the 4.8, and since you're getting it for cheap and have the motor out, do a cam swap.

if your gonna go through the trouble of the swap, throw a cam in it while its out of the truck... your gonna be disappointed if you just do the engine swap....
