Default 4.8-5.3 swap ?

I was thinking about switching over to a 5.3 in my work truck ,I have a 99 silverado 4x4 with the 4.8 , stick shift . can i just switch over the parts from my 4.8 to a new long block 5.3 , or will I have to change different things (injectors , flywheel etc.) I wanted to get a little more power out of it without too many modifications .

Everything will swap right over, but the PCM will need to be retuned to get the volumetric efficiency right for the extra cubes. I'd also suggest getting some injectors from a 00 and up, and have the PCM tuned for them also. The 1999 injectors flow less than the other years (something like 19lb vs. 24.7lbs I think). This way, if you do future mods (cam, headwork, whatever), you'll already have adequate injectors (unless you go FI or something and need some considerably larger injectors).

The long block will swap right in. All the accessory and everything is the same. It will run on the 4.8 tune, but really should be retuned for the 5.3.

Honestly why even mess with swapping to a 5.3? If you are going to swap motors put a 6.0L in there and you'll love it way more. They might be a little harder to find and a little more initial investment, but the power output is worth it.

LOL! I knew that was coming! Maybe I'm wrong, but he probably doesn't want to have to replace the transmission, too.

your right on that one , before I go to the expense of replacing the transmission & transfer case plus motor I would go buy another truck .
This is just for my work truck , about half of the miles I put on it are on steep & rough gravel roads & I will usually put on about 40,000 miles per year (sometimes more ) so I want to keep some fuel economy

Yea i agree with Nasty. If your doing a swap. just do it right and get a 6.0.

btw chevy small block parts have been interchangeable with equivelant genre since the iron age.

The stock 4L60e transmission will work with 2001 and newer 6.0L's. It will also last as long as you drive responsibly. And BTW these are not small block chevy engines and the parts are not interchangable with the 327 in grandma's 1965 BelAir.

the point was that Chevy has always made interchangable parts.
