i forgot about the vette motor, it's late man....definatly go from where you already are. throw a D1-SC on it, a set of Patriot Performance heads (nice and work well with a budget) and a custom grind and you're there man.

I don't think you should go with a JET trans. From what I've heard, they're not worth the money and work/trouble of using. If you buy a built trans, it will/should already come with a shift kit in it. A few of the sponsors here have a great reputation for building quality transmissions. IMO, you can't go wrong with FLP. They have some of the best built 4L60E's and some of the greatest customer service out there. Pricing on stage II heads varies with the head and vendor. 5.3 heads are usually cheaper in price, then LS1 heads, and the LS6/6.0 heads. For the most part, stage II's start at about $1500+. If you decide to port polish your own heads, be sure to know what you're doing. It's pretty easy to over-port alluminum heads. Look around in the for sale section, you can usually pick up a good set of heads for a fair price. Good luck with the project.

Hey, Rob's, I see we are in the same neck of tha woods! I am currently turning a 5.3 into an iron block 5.7. As the others are posting it is not cheap by any means BUT if you are not in a hurry and don't mind chancing Ebay there are deals to be had. I am in right now for $1200 including the motor. Heads, cam, machine work, hey it adds up pretty quick.
Tom Edwards Racing is helping me out and doing a good job to date.
In all, the Radix or turbo will get you to a similar platform for performance without the major engine work. BUT, don't count out the advantage of using the "no replacement for displacement" line! Good luck, drop me a line if you want to swap some notes.
