That's just what I was coming up with also, and that puts me right in the range I want to be. Thanks a ton! I also just found out that the cam in my other engine is bad, so now back to the drawing board on that. Good excuse to go bigger I say.

I'm actually in a similar situation right now... Have some stock 317's to use on my build, or ported 241's I can pull from my other truck and run... but not sure if it'd be worth the trouble...

For future growth potential, I would say mill the hell out of the 317's, do a valve job and call it a day. I was thinking about this yesterday....lol. Either setup will be good, I think there is more potential in the 317's, but would cost you some cheddar to get it there.

so then you decided to use the 241's, or what?

Both of my trucks have LQ9's, and I'm sure the cams will differ quite a bit between us, but I'd still be interested to see your results. I'm beginning to think it might not be worth the hassle for me.... I'll probably just clean up my 317's and use those cuz I'm broke!

As it stands right now I'm going to use the 241's. I have them at the shop getting a valve job done right now and milled. Found a comp cams 228/232 .588/.595 110+2LSA on a local forum NIB I think I am going to pick up, should do what I want I'm thinking.

If I had an LQ9 I would quite possibly just mill the 317's a tad and cut out for the 2.02/1.60 valves I already have. But with my dished pistons in the LQ4 I want my compression up 10.5:1+ I need to use the 241's. That's just me, and I don't know jack compared to 90% of the guys around here.

Well I just found out 6 valves are bad in my 241 heads. Now I'm debating what to do. I can't decide if I want to pull heads, mill the 317s, put them back on and throw in a cam. Honestly I'm thinking about just putting the 6.0 in as is and selling the car.

well damn... yeah, maybe just cam the 6.0 as is and throw it in. Should still run pretty strong with the right cam. Popping the heads just to mill them will add up in cost when you consider head bolts and gaskets needed... and shorter push rods, unless you already had some in anticipation of milled heads...?

...and what are you putting this in? I forgot, if you mentioned it already.
Just getting tired of the project so it's making you want to sell, or what?

I already have head gaskets and arp head studs, plus I work in a machine shop so pulling the heads to mill them really only cost me time. Well, and pushrods. I think I will go ahead and mill them, throw in the 228/232 110+2 cam and drive it with a for sale sign in it. If I get what I need out of it good, if not that's okay too.

It's going in a 98 trans am. Slick car but it just isn't a good daily driver. I got the car in a trade for my old truck but it just doesn't suit me. It sits way too low for me, I want back in an suv or truck.

Plus I already have enough projects, my daily really doesn't need to be one!
