Hello fellow Iowan. I was contemplating throwing this cam in my DD Avalanche. I was thinking headers first but I don't like the problems people run into with 4WD and headers. It sounds like the cam swap is still worth it without the headers. I have a CAI, muffler swap, and I tuned it with HPTuners.
I'd be interested in some video clips of it as well when you get a chance. I assume you changed springs as well?

4wd and headers I've always heard is a hit and miss, but you can mostly do some research to find out which ones have better fitment before you buy.

Cutout installed, open cutout. Pre-tune
I don't yet have videos of speedo or against my buddies vehicles.

I did change the springs to AT LEAST the Z06 Blue or Yellow springs. I chose blue. $65. The cam is making good power, but I also dropped to about 14mpg.. Not sure if that's a mix between 32" mud terrains and a level.. I'm not sure.

Your Tahoe sounds good though.

I wanted to go with a turbo build, but couldn't come up with the cash. And I didnt want to replace or build the tranny yet haha. Its coming soon enough as I'm at 162k miles.
What I really need to do is hook up a tranny temp gauge, throw in a servo, and also hook up a wideband. Anyone have any input on their favorite widebands or what seems to be the best out there?

I had a 212/218 in my 04 turbo Z71/5.3 , it ran great and had a nice little chop at idle , def an epic cam for the 5.3
You'll like this cam Stew , before we put on in my old truck , TJ took me for a ride in his buds 02 2500hd with this same cam /intake / exhaust only and that ***** ripped ! It loved to cruise at 100 and had power from bottom to top , this was back in 05' but I still remember how well it ran . Both trucks we used Z06 valve springs .
