Default 2012 4.8 Sierra.

Hello everybody. As the title says I have a 4.8 I’m looking to do some work on. I’m looking at the BTR truck cams. I’d like to gear the truck with some 4.56 gears and a stall port the factory heads. The casting number on the head on driver side says 799. From what I’ve read is these are good heads to work with. Also I’m I was looking at the fast truck intake. I will drive the truck every day but it’s only a 10 mile round trip to work every day. If any one could give any advice I would appreciate it. Also was gonna add long tube headers and cold air intake.

Dont worry with the porting or the fast intake.
Ditch the vvt if it has it and afm too of course.
The Texas speed stg2 high lift will garner better results and quieter valvetrain than the comp cores from btr. We have the whole kit for $569 with cam springs and pushrods.
If vvt youll need the vvt delete kit which is ls2 front cover and 4x 3 bolt crank sprocket. That runs $115. add in water pump gaskets and crank bolt for $15.
If afm then that kit runs $320.
Please let me know if you have more questions!

You got lucky then. no afm either?

I still stick by my statement. You wanna add a small stall then the stg3 high lift is for you, otherwise the 4.8 loses too much on the bottom end with a larger cam.

2010-2013 4.8's have VVT with no AFM/DoD.

The L20 is the newer version of the LY2 that ended in 2009 and doesn't have VVT.

Like he said, keep the truck intake.

^ right. I was looking for my spreadsheet that has all that info.
If it has flex fuel it should be l20 and have vvt also.

Wouldn't hurt to mill the heads. The whopping 8.8:1 compression those have leaves a lot to be desired.

I’d like to say thanks though mike at rpm speed. He’s been a big help. The motor ended up having no vvt or afm. So that helped out on price.

Was it some kind of fleet option for no VVT or someone swapped the engine prior?

Seems really odd that a 2012 has no VVT.
