Default 2010 2500hd 6.0--Headers, Exhaust Help!

I am sorry if this has been asked before.

I have a stock 2010 2500hd 6.0 crew cab 4x4 and I would like to replace the exhaust. I am looking to get some HP and Torque with the hopes of better MPG.
I am looking at getting long tube headers (1 3/4 or 1 7/8) possibly to an X pipe or Y pipe to 1 muffler or 2 with the x pipe.

I don't need it to be super loud, hence why i dont need true dual exhaust( I maybe wrong) just a nice deep growl without the snapping and popping.( I can't stand the snapping and popping)

I do not plan on swapping out the cam
I would also like a CAI but can not find one for this truck.
I occasionally tow a 7k travel trailer.

Any input would greaty be appreciated!!!

thanks,

Mark

S&B makes a CAI for it.

Thanks for the info! looks to be a little pricey but I guess I don't have many options with this truck.

Exhaust tone and acceptable levels of volume are obviously entirely subjective. My opinion, for what it's worth, is dual exhaust always sounds better from a tonal perspective, and it allows you to more easily quieten down the volume without adversely affecting flow. Your two mufflers are in parallel as opposed to being in series. No, I don't have data on all the new exhaust systems. This is just my experience talking. My personal preference is Spintech mufflers.

Regarding headers, a smaller primary will allow for higher velocities of exhaust gases at lower rpm levels (i.e. where you drive all the time) when compared to headers with larger primaries. For a big, heavy 2500HD truck, I'd recommend staying with the smaller size of primaries. Torque is going to be the name of the game for seat-of-the-pants feel. Between the two sizes you listed, I would only consider the 1-3/4" primary headers.

I have an '05 1500HD 4wd, and that is also one heavy sumbitch. Even with it having a 6.0 LQ4, I installed 1-5/8" primary headers and a 2.5" dual exhaust with an x-pipe. My truck does 95% of its work from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm (maybe 4k on the rare day...). I want to scavenge the hell outta the cylinders at that low of rpm range and thus have no use for large primary pipes.

If going the dual exhaust route, put your x-pipe as close to the collectors as possible. With these trucks, that means you want the cross-over pipe as close to the front as possible as soon as the driver side collector pipe comes on over to the passenger side.

Hope this helps in your decision making process.

Thank you for the write up!

Volume is subjective, I dont want or need my neighbors 1/2 mile hearing me.

I like the growl when you get on it.

How about 1 5/8 headers?

I am not trying to turn this truck into a race truck. I don't care if it ever goes over 100 mph.

just looking for Hp, torque and hopefully better MPG's

Does airaid make an intake tube for those trucks yet?

You can have a full dual set up and not be obnoxiously loud, especially if you're planning on keeping your cats or replacing them with aftermarket ones.
Are you keeping your cats?

You could always buy their DIY kit and fab one up. That's what I did when I Frankenstein fitted mine after the MAF delete and other mods. Works just fine and looks pretty good.
