Default 2000 1500 which motor?

Im getting a 2000 1500 2wd and just wondering what motor was in those the 5.3 or the 5.7? Im not really a gasser person more of the Diesel guy. What is the cheapest but effiective thing I can do beside intake and exhaust?

Thanks

That would be a 5.3. The 5.7's only come in the f-body cars.

They seem to respond to cams nicely. If you aren't considering headers part of the exhaust, I would do that before a cam.

4.8 or 5.3...converter, gears, headers/full exhaust, and cam in that order.

A tuner from Hypertech,Super Chips or Deablo is probably the most effective mod on a stock 5.3.

Stay away from Super chips ... I've heard some bad things about them ... and not to many good things.

Is the 5.3 a good motor to modify? Is it worth modifying?
