Which thermostat do most run,160 or 180 and will either effect gas mileage?

stock t-stat is a 180 degF... most people switched to 160 degF. you may want to take this into consideration if you live in a cold climate area. I think some people have issues with engine not warming up fast enough, or something to that effect.

Maybe someone can chime in to clarify this.

Did you install it or was it already in truck, if so what kinda of gains did you notice other than the fact the truck runs cooler.

So far I've had the stock t-stat (195*), a 180* stat, and now a 160* stat. With the factory clutch fan, the 180* stat ran a few degrees cooler than the factory stat, but was not as consistent as the factory stat and would still get up to over 200* under certain conditions...not worth it IMO. The 160* stat is good for F/I and Nitrous applications, or if you have e-fans and set them to work with the 160* stat, which may allow you to run a few more degrees of timing before detonation occurs. My fans are set to come on at 180* and turn off at 173* with my 160* stat, and my truck runs consistently at around 175-178*. (I monitored my temps with an AutoXray scan tool for those who are wondering...the factory guage is not accurate, although is good enough to tell the driver if their engine is about to experience a catostrophic meltdown lol)

Did any of the thermostats affect performance or mileage?
