1/4 mile disappointment
So last night I took the truck out to the local track and ran the truck for the first time and second time. I have a 2000 Silverado 5.3, pacesetter Lt headers, k&n intake, diablo programmer. I'm leveled on 33's with 17's and have always had a pretty good running truck that I've always thought to be somewhat quick. Long story short first run was a 16.69 at 86mph and second was 16.47 with a better but not the best launch. I was expecting to be in the low 15's at the most so this really surprised me. My question is why is my truck so slow compared to other full bolt on trucks, and what can I do to make it faster without a cam or F/I. I know some drag radials and my stock rims would put me at about 16. But what else can I do? Thanks!

Dynotune is next on the list, was thinking a 2800 stall or so. Why does the truck have such bad aerodynamics? I've seen quite a few lifted trucks be very fast

I'm sure the 80+lbs per wheel rim/tire combo is slowing you down, and gears would help alot.
These trucks are like bricks flying through the air, it's not a sleek/low sports car so being aerodynmaically challenge is what we have to deal with.
I can't say why some other lifted trucks are faster, but I'd just bet that they have a better setup. Better stall, gears, are making more than 300 hp to the tire.

I don't see a cam on this list, without one you cannot consider yourself comparable to a "full bolt on" truck. You need a cam to make power up top and and a setup that will let you get to that RPM range quickly (gears). A basically stock 5.3 on stock gears and big tires? 16 seconds is a very decent time.
Although I had a limousine Suburban that made 16.97 @ 83. Probably weighed a good 1500lbs more than your pickup.
