Any one of the lsx based engines will take 600 hp no problem. The cranks in these have been in setups over 1000 hp. The weak link will be the pistons( blowing a hole in them from too much timing or detonation) or breaking a rod.. Good tuning, a well built thought out, maintained setup will take a hell of a beating.. Can't go wrong with the 6.0 or the ls1, however the ls1 is a aluminum block, not steel like the 6.0 What do you plan to do to get 500 to the wheels with out a blower/turbo ?? Nitrous???

A vortec is a LSX engine, all share the same stuff.. A ls1-6 is what is put in the cars.. All the stuff from one to the other as far as heads, acces, intakes are all interchangeable with one another..

to get the 500 im gonna do a trick flow top end kit with their gen x heads lsx cam and roller rockers that is rated at 515 plus a bbk ssi intake and 80mm throttle body. and later on either a magnacharger supercharger or a procharger. so do you think i would be good on the bottom end at say 500 or a few more rwhp?

Not sure, but it shouldn't be that much of a prob, just have to use the pcm, harness and swap it into the old truck. Just for you info, I am working on a forged engine, plan to make 700+ hp on it and am going to use the stock crank..
