Default 01 F-body cam?

Has anyone stuck the 01/02 F-body cam in a 5.3L Silverado (auto)? How did you like it? Did you put it stright up (on a 116 intake center) or did you advance it? I want to shift at 5800RPM.

F-body = 196/207, 0.467"/0.479" lift, 116LSA
Silverado = 191/190 0.457"/0.466" lift, 114LSA

I have the cam out of my Camaro and I figured I couldn't go wrong doing the swap. The stock valve train should work fine (keep stock springs) because I won't be turning up high enough RPM to float so all I'm out is my time. Anyone?

Its the same as a 6.0 cam. You really wouldnt gain much from the swap. If you want to do a cheap cam swap watch eBay. I've seen quite a few in the range of 207/210 115 go for $20-30.

I doubt you would see any noticeable gains unless you have a 99.

That's a lot of work, for what - 5 HP? Maybe a little more? I got around 18 HP/TQ from a 205/212 cam with 548/540 lift. I doubt you'll see half that from the F-body cam....the duration is not that different, and the lift is almost the same.

I put an 02 F-body cam in my 99 5.3. I didn't know much about cams for the 5.3 at that time so I found one for $50 and tried it out. I didn't tune it and I kept all the stock valvetrain parts. It was a lot of work for the little gain. I noticed that it pulled a "little" bit more up top. If I had to do it all over again I would have waited and bought a bigger cam like a Comp 212/218 or TR 220.

I guess the cam in the 99 must have been smaller, i think the later year trucks had a slight increase in hp, i would assume to be due to a cam change, just guessing though, i could be wrong.
