Default 00 6.0 vs 03+ 5.3

Alright guys, right now I've got a 2000 GMC ECSB 2500 4x4 with the 6.0, and I get really shitty gas mileage. I've thought about selling it and getting an 03 or 04 z71 with the 5.3, but after coming on here and seeing all the swaps to a 6.0, it has me wondering, would it be worth it to sell my truck now if I want to make it fast? I know I want to get longtubes with highflow cats and some good-sounding mufflers (not sure what kind yet) and get a high stall converter, then supercharge and cam it and have it custom tuned. If I get 13mpg stock, what would I get with that stuff done to it? And what would I get in a z71 with the same stuff done?

most people are doing swaps into 1500 series trucks. that 2500 is heavy. i would buy a good used truck and do the swap before you sell the 2500
