The 285's will fit your rims but bulge a little. To do this or not really depends on what you expect in terms of handling. The sidewalls get really swishy if you go overboard. I used to run 285/60R16 tires on 7x16" rims. It was a little squirely with any side-to-side maneuvers but I obtained the sttraight-line traction I was looking for doing that.

I have 17" rims now, they are 8.5" wide. Funny everyone's talking about Toyo Proxes - I just had 275/55R17's mounted TODAY. These are only 28.9" in diameter and would be too small for a NBS truck, but it's actually the stock diameter for OBS 2WD trucks: (This is what sidewalls for a 275 tire look like on an 8.5" rim, so from this you can get an idea of what 285 will be for 7" rims)

Thanks guys, looks like i'm gonna go with the 275/60-17's although they are a half inch shorter.

What are the details on your truck? 2wd or 4wd? Lowered, if so how much? I think the 285's would have worked on my Escalade wheels, but I didn't want the added weight and height. I'm thinking the Escalade wheels are 8" wide.....does anyone know?

I was just thinking that the 275's might be a little short, especially on a 4wd. However, the 285's will be a little taller than a stock 2wd tire. I had the same dillema as you, but wound up going with the 275's. My truck is 2wd with a 2" lowering shackle in the back.

I honestly think you'll be fine either way.

Trust me, I hear ya. I am the same way. I have been wanting to get the 285-60-17's on my truck too, running the stock 17x7.5 Denali wheels here. I actually want to run the 285's on the rear and 275's up front, I just installed my eibach 1" front coils this weekend so I have a bit of rake, which I love, but right now am running 275-55-17's which are too short for my taste. I am gonna go to discount tire and see what they say about the 285's, if I can make it work, I just might do it.
