Default will 6.0 work w/4L60E

Well my buddy screwed his motor just before christmas, it was a 5.3 on a 2003, he has 50K miles on it and the extended warranty will not fix it. They are giving him BS because he did not have his oil changes there. Long story short, he will have to repair it out of his pocket, piston #7 is screwed. If he decides to put a 6.0 on it will he have to change trannies too, he just wants something to drive right now he is down and does not have other vehicles, the tranny will not last much with the 6.0, with the 5.3 it went thru 4 of them (thanks to warranty, lol). So the main ? is will he have to swap the tranny to make the 6.0 work, and also what year of 6.0 will work?
thanks in advance.

The 4L60E will work fine, just be sure he has a shift kit and servos put in, that way it may actually last a little while. Im running my 60 with my 6l and havent had any problems lately. I think any 6l after 00' or 01' will work, if not, Im sure someone will correct me.

It'll work, but if he plans on mod'n the 6L, he'll want to build up that 60 to handle additional power thrown at it. Ask white1, he's been through a few issues!

this is at Bert Ogden here in mission, the truck has been sitting there since December 20, and now they want to charge him 100, for checking the truck. I think Ivan (La Chochita) had some problems them too.
