Both of you guys are correct. But you should be able to hook on a smaller tire if it is inflated properly and its a good compound.
Most guys here do run a taller than required tire. a good percentage of these guys are not putting down over 500+ RWHP either. But like stated above it really depends on your setup!

I run a 28" slick because I want the sidewall. My truck does not transfer the weight well and I think a shorter tire with less sidewall will only promote more spinning.
Is anyone else running a shorter drag/radial or slick? I know most people that have ran 26" et streets eventually went to a 28"

dEREK I understand that. WIth 4.10 gears and 275 40 17 its like having a 4.93 rear end gear. Off the line is so much better. After my buddy dropped like 4/10s on his silverado from teh 305 45 18 to the 275 40 17 proved my point to him even more. he though no way in hell will i hook on a 275 40 17 but yet the vett guys at my track with the 6 speeds are running 9s and 10s on them easy. Hell the mustang guys also. They hook hard as hell.
Oh well just putting it up there. Id liek to know who else had a 275 40 17 mt drag rad and had traction probs???

im trapping 110 on 28" hoosiers on a 16X10 wheel (4.10 gears all motor). i'd be willing to try some 26" et streets but i didnt see any difference in times between the 26" et's and the 28" hoosiers. that was a few mods ago though. what i did see was alot more consistant 60' times with the 28" hoosiers. i plan on spraying a 200 by this november/december so ill stick with the 28's.

I have ran my m/t 26" et streets several times and yeah they hook awesome. Tire pressure and proper warm up was a major factor in getting them to hook.
I run mine as low as 15 psi, works awesome. They are great for the midhorsepower high geared guys but when you start to go to the lower geared higher horsepower guys you start to run into problems.
I think some of it has to do with appearance too. Who wants to look at that little 26" donut on the back of there "drag truck"..lol.

Hey Tony, does your buddy have a RC or EC truck? How did his drag radials hook on the street and what was his 60' on his 13 sec run?
