Default Where can I look for a transmission

I'm going to need a rebuild or replacement since my sun shell is screwed.

I eventually wanted to drop in a 6.0L and a 4L80E. But since I can't afford that 80E right now and would be wasting my time mating it to my 4.3L I need to settle for something more cost effective.

If a rebuild is going to cost nearly as much as a build transmission anyway, I'm thinking a built 60E or 65E. Where is the most cost effective place to find something that will last a while behind the 6.0L?

First off the link that you have put up is not appreciated by paying sponsors here. Especially one from EBAY! But I will tell you that I have had a couple of those orange bombers come through the shop. Also I have read a couple posts here that customers have had issues with those units. Maybe try to pm 1badc10 and I believe 1slowhoe had one of those at one point. Can't remember the others but maybe they will chime in. Remember as stated above you get what you pay for. Cheaper is not better it's that simple. Vince

I'm going to back Vince on this one... not just b/c he's a good builder, but I've had one of those "orange bombers", and it wasn't worth anything but PARTS (and not all good)! TRANZPARTS1 is a low budget shop out of Florida that hires a guy to come in and "rebuild" their units using the "eyeball, this part's good" method (meaning if the part ain't cracked, it's goin back in). I had worn 2-4 band, rev input drum, clutches, and valve seperator plate. They have a local guy that claims to rebuild units (using USED internals), and claims to dyno them before shipment. They sent me the WRONG trans after I told them what engine I had, and wanted ME to pay return shipping for their goof-up. PLUS... I received it with NO PALLETE or case... WTF? Even the pan had been stabbed by a forklift. If that doesn't scare you, then you'll be rebuilding this unit, and throwing money away. I wanted a cheap unit that I could throw in until I got a built unit, but ended up throwing money at it from day one! However, I wanted to learn how 60Es worked, and got first hand at rebuilding 'em (a number of times). I'm appreciative of performance trans builders b/c I now know what they go through to build a "quality" unit.

Long story ended... buy a built unit, and don't waste time & money if your intent is NOT to gain building experience. BTW... the unit I bought was way cheaper than the link to the one in the first post.
