I have a 2004 escalade LQ9 that i am swapping into a 85 c10. I have to get a tranny so it may as well be the 4l80e. what year models can i use? any years that i should avoid?

i believe anything from 99-07 will work just fine, maybe even the older ones...

the only difference in the 99-00 was the 6.0 had a spacer on the flexplate because of something with the crank being longer...but im not sure how that works going the other way..at least a 01-07 will be easiest..

03 truck with a 8.1 would be an allison I think. If it was out of a cargo van it might be an 80. I have no idea what the differences are though.

So does the 80e from a 2500 8.1 equipped SUV have the same bell housing as those that came from behind a 6.0??

I think they all share the same LS bolt pattern, give or take an extra bolt hole. If I recall correctly the 60E, 80E, ZF650 and Allison all share the same bellhousing configuration.

PS: the ZF650 gets my vote for a C10 swap. You'll never kill it!

They all share the same bell housing, at least all that I have seen. Hell even the Allison we just replaced here at work would bolt up to an ls
