Default what truck came with RPO #G80 ? ( positrac)

I'm wondering what kind of package would come with a rear positrack? I'm really in need of a ''locking'' rear diff but cannot afford a locker so I'm looking on getting a used rear axle !

any help ?

Any 1/2 4x4 gmc/chevy. I bet someone here would give you one for the cost of shipping.

The way people bash the G80 I thought you couldn't give them away!

I like mine. It works well in the snow I'm also not making a ton of power.

To politely split hairs on the terminology, the truck G80 isn't posi; it's a locker. Eaton Gov-Loc. You can look up videos that show how it operates.

And yeah it deserves most of the bashing it gets, mainly due to relative weakness - but that's pretty much comparing it to aftermarket units which work better and/or are stronger. This is the low-bid factory unit and it does OK for what it is. If you abuse it, it will die. If you use the wrong lube, it won't work right. (Do not use posi additives, just straight gear lube.)

They came in plenty of 2WD trucks as well, just check the SPID label in the glovebox.

If you're going through junk yard looking at loose axle assemblies there is an easy way to tell if it's got a g80. Give one of the flanges a hard spin by hand. If it's an open differential it will just spin the opposite flange the same speed in the other direction with very little resistance. If it has a G80 it will suddenly lock up and transfer torque to the pinion and the whole thing will be dragged to a halt. It's hard to miss.
