I' m trying to locate a 700R-4 that will work in my old man' s 92 Chevy 2500 4X4. He found an old S10 with a V6 and tranny for sale for $300. He' d like to pick it up, if it will work.

 

The only problems you might face would be different govenor calibrations and possiably different lock-up wiring setups. It would be best to do the original. Good luck, Vince.

 

The V-6 700r4 will not work, it is only designed to with stand the power of the v-6. Dont even think about putting one in a 3/4 ton truck. BTW, if it had a 2.8 v-6 in front of it, it wont bolt up to a v-8 block. The trans that came behind a 4.3 will bolt up to a v-8, but it wont last long.

 

Durability is where I figured would be it' s downfall. I figured the tranny for the 4.3 would bolt up, but I wasn' t sure about the 2.8. Wasn' t the 3.1 also used for a little while in the S10 in that era? Not that it matters, just curious. As said before, I didn' t expect an S10 700r4 to hold up in his truck, being it' s a 2500HD, and he uses it to tow a trailer quite frequently.

no bud, the 3.1 was never installed factory in an S-10, just the 2.4 4 popper,2.2 4 popper, 2.8 v-6 , 4.3 v-6 and the LS1 v-8. I WISH!!!
