What thickness metal for shock mount brackets?

yep welding to the factory tube and to the existing shock mounts...

Ok. I think even 1/8" will be fine if you make the brackets tall enough and tie them together to reduce any buckling.

Well i am happy for you and your welder. Like stated previously i don't feel comfortable welding that thick of material. I just looked on the inside panel of my lincoln, it does say it will do up to 5/16 but i would have to use .045 flux wire...

is it a lincoln 180 model that you have? nice smartass reply, you asked for insite. metal is my trade so i replied back... welding 1/4 is no different technique then 1/8
