my friend has a 3000 behind a stock 4.8 and IMO it needs more converter even with its stock cam.

The Circle-D 278mm will have great street manners at part throttle then flash up when you stomp on it, and it's a nice price too. I'd go with something between 3400-3600 for a TR220 in a 4.8, and up the gears to 4.10-4.30 also, although the gears aren't necessary asap. Don't forget to figure the price of a trans cooler into your budget, as even the larger 278mm converter will generate more heat than the stocker. There's a sticky in the GM Drivetrain and Suspension section about the TruCool 40k trans cooler that 90% of us here run, that cooler kicks ***!

I have a 4.8 with a 216/220 on 110+2 on a stock converter and it's got nothin down low. It doesn't really start pullin till I hit 3000 rpm. The 220 cam will be even more of a dog. The stock converter makes it alot more of a pain in the *** to tune too, since you can only turn your idle up so high, you spend alot of time straightening out the street manners.

i did a 3200 stall before i did my cam swap. thats the route that i reccomend bc even the stock cam can benefit from a higher stalled tc.

It would be OK, not great. Sure, it's nice because it drives like stock and still retains the trucks ability to tow, but it can't be compared to a real performance converter, imo.

yeah.. I dont EVER plan on towing so thats not a problem. Idk from what everyone is saying 3200 seems popular but im damn confused! its pretty decent pricing.. I dont really have just a **** load of money to throw around right now. I might go with that or I might go bigger idk..
