Most people will recommeng you getting at least the axle and pinion seals/bearings. I had this guy swap out my 3.73's for some 4.10's and he was able to reuse everything. How many miles on your truck?

Default Wouldnt hurt

Wouldnt hurt to buy the kit. I see you have a 01 so it wouldnt hurt to replace the bearings and maybe the races. Just check them. Youll need a torque wrench, gasket, gear paint to check the bite and a press to press the bearings off the old pinion and onto the new pinion. Dont drag the axles out over the seals or youll have a leak. Pull the axles out and clean them. OH by the way but a lot of brake cleaner to clean that housing. 3 cans or so. Id go ahead and clean the axles too, just be easy on those seals at the wheels!!
good luck.

I would get all new seals and bearings, but thats me. one other thing you may need is a shim kit. G.M uses to big shims and IF (big IF, because I didn't need too) you need to do any adjusting to the carrier left or right you will need shims. Also I would never change a bearing without changing a race.

Default No shims for oe and eaton

you wont need shims if you have oe gears and an eaton posi, just reuse the same ones. the eaton can be ordered especially for the gm 8.5
