What "Level" of rebuild for my 4L80E?
I'm gathering parts to do the swap and for peace of mind I would like to get my 4L80E trans re-built before putting it in as it's got unknown mileage.
I called Gearstar who's the sponsor of this section since I'm going to be in Akron next week for the WGC Golf event (spectating) and since i'm going to be looking at 6-700whp and I already have a new Yank Billet Pro Truck 3200 converter they recommended their Level 5 with Billet Main shaft which is $3590.
They do a Level 2 which is essentially a stock rebuild but their price including a converter is $2700 and rated for 500whp so I would think without converter would be closer to 2k which is pretty significantly less.
I don't mind paying the $$ if it needs to happen however I read a lot on here and seems a lot of folks just put in a low mileage trans with a HD2 shift kit and are good to go.
Putting in a turbo kit + 4k on a trans + converter/shafts/etc. = wife wants to kill me
Thanks,
Jay

I didn't see you mention what power you plan to make, but I can tell you that I literally just got home from picking up my refreshed transmission. I someday hope to make 500 rwhp, and I went with a stock type rebuild, high energy clutches, and a Transgo HD2 kit. Stock transmissions with the shift kit have been show to hold over 700 to the wheels.

650-700whp max will be my goals, maybe at the track 2 times a year, not street racing, just my daily driver so sounds like stock rebuild with shift kit is what I want.

Well I ended up going with a local guy that builds trans for one of the Corvette shops in town, did a fresh build with shift kit, reasonable price and he's local which is nice. Won't get the 4L80E on until I blow up the 4L60 so will be a little while until I see how she performs.
