Transmission Woes, Transgo wear?
#1
OK.. on halloween i started havin intermitten transmission trouble. No 4th or converter lockup. It would work perfect sometimes and then at times it wouldn't. Also at WOT it would hit rev limiter in 2nd and not shift to 3rd. Dropped the pan and pulled the valve body and had a little inspection session. Here is what i found.
I hate to admit it, but at the time i installed the transgo i didn't have a inch/lb torque wrench. Well, when it started messin up i thought maybe the valve body had loosened up and was seperating with pressure and bleeding off somehow. Dropped the pan and two of the vb bolts were lose.
This piece had come halfway out. and had produced a hole in the center (guess i punched it too hard chamfering it) The second plug was gone completely.
I opted for the transgo seperator plate which is about twice as heavy as the factory one and much more sturdy. I'm glad i did, where the check ***** sit is some serious wear and tear. It looks like those ***** have been hitting the sep. plate HARD.

I'm calling transgo tomorrow morning and see what direction they can point me in. Do you think they will chamfer the plugs in the two holes in a new sep. plate then send it to me or am i going to have to find a trans shop to do it (or attempt it again myself)
Could any of this not even be the prob. and just be coincidental and have other internal injuries?
Any input is greatly appreciated here!!
Thanks,
Jones

I should of taken some pictures for you today. After reading this thread I had to read the directions from transgo. I now can see why you have had problems. I have been plugging valve bodies for a while. I would never use the methods that transgo gave you for the large plug that has blown out on you. I use a round and a flat file to chamfer the seperator plate for this plug. Then I place the plate on nice flat solid steel surface. And then tap the plug with a hammer to expand the plug. I have never had this problem using this method with this kit. I do like the oem plate over the transgo plate because it is thinner and the plugs do not expand as well using the transgo plate. I do have plates in stock for you if you need one. Also the damage to the seperator plate in the check ball area is common on units using steel check *****. We use torlon check ***** and they do save transmissions from failures. Vince
