Default transmission upgrade?..2002 Z71

My 2002 Silverado has the 4L60E and I'm thinking upgrade. This truck just killed it third transmission and it has about 150,000. Could I go up to a 4L65? or what could I replace it with and keep my transfer case...what are my options? any ideas are appreciated

thanks,
lhernichs

The only difference in 4L60E and 4L65E is the 4 pinon planetarys vs 5 pinion planetarys. Same ole clutchs in every gear.

whats goin out in the 60Es? 4th gear?

Do you have a transmission cooler?
Mods?

It has a cooler. The first time it went out on me (2nd in truck's lifetime) a planetary set broke. This time I'm not totally sure what it did to begin with since I haven't got it apart yet, but it quit shifting into 2nd gear which could have been a clutch or valve body, I don't know yet. I had a cooler line break and lost oil so I'm sure I ruined the clutches then.

I didn't know if the 4L80 would even some close to fitting so I thought the next best thing would be a 4L65...I just don't have any idea if the transfer cases will fit and if not ill have to change drive shafts too.
