Transmission trouble.

So today i drove to school in my 2002 silverado RCSB with 105,xxx miles. I drove about 3 miles, everything was normal. I used to get on the truck alot, then it started having tranny problems, very minor though, just little slips everynow and then when turning. I stopped about 5,xxx miles ago, and everything has boon good.
Well i left school and started my truck, pushed the brake, went to put it in gear, and nothing, the "P" light around park would go off, but no other lights would come on. It would go all the way to where "1" is and just sit there, with no catches along the way. It would stay in park, i could rev it and nothing would happen, i couldnt push it.
My brother came and did something with a big screwdriver under the car to get it in reverse, then did it again and got it into "2" and followed me home. Then did the same thing to get it into park. He said something about a shaft being broken from bumping the curb when i parked or maybe putting in park a little too rough.
Any ideas? Prices and parts would be a big help
Sorry for the novel.

Moved this from the Dodge section to the GM section in hopes you get a more relevant answer
Welcome to PT.net, sounds like it is a linkage issue and not an issue with the trans but I will defer to a more knowledgeable response.
