ok so i bought my truck with 75k on it and i dont know if the tranny fluid has ever been changed or flushed. the previous owner towed a boat with it so i know that it needs to be changed, but should i just change the pan fluid or do a whole flush. i hear if u flush it with this many miles u might brake build up loose, and it will damage your tranny. so what do i do?

At least change your filter and the fluid that you loose that's in your pan.
You should be alright doing it that way.
It's not all that hard, you can do it yourself.

what are you guys talking about? if u havnt ever changed the fluid then dont change it, or just change the filter, thats is crazy.if u have never changed it and you dont still, then even if u dont do it then your just pushing off the inevitable, because over time your clutch material and other metal parts ware down not to mention the fluid getting burned , getting trash stuck in your valve body which can cause numerous problems, so if u dont have any problems now , not changing the fluid aint gonna help any really. its like putting a band-aid on a broken arm ,if you do have trash in your tranny then with an actuall tranny flush with a machine, then it will do some good, but sometimes not even a high pressure flush can get the nasty out. i flush mine every 20k and change the filter everytime.

So his tranny is a trash can???
You have been changing yours like you should be by what you are saying.
Good for you. Though this guy hasn't changed his ever. He has 75,000mi. with no fluid exchange.
The filter and pan fluid change will be fine.
It really isn't recommended to flush his tranny at that many miles.
Where I do tranny flushes, we place a conditioner back in with the new fluid. This will lessen the chances of the tranny failing after a high miliage flush.
Just depends on where you take it. Some places do that extra step, while others will just flush it and send you back on your way to tranny problems shortly down the road.

what i was saying was, if he has never changed his fluid then it would be reccommened to do so if he has over 50k on it and beats on it alot , like most normal perfromance enthusiast do.i work for a ford dealership and we reccommend our customers a tranny flush on their vehichles about every 30k to keep long life. we use all BG products with all of our flushes, and they have some good stuff. i know this because what ever was left to my tranny after it was rebuilt at about 160k and was acting up i used the conditioner then flushed it and within the next week it started deteriorating fast. so the conditioner probobly went on ahead and finished off my worn out cluthches and friction material . but like i said before it was just a matter of time before it happened anyways, thats why i said it better to do a flush and then youll see what ya got instead of just changing the filter if youve never done it before. if you change just the filter ,you may not get all the nasty out.and if you may have trash in your valve body you would never know about. these valve bodies are very sensitive to trash like most are. it never a good feelin when you drop 3rd and 4th gears 3 hours from the house, but it was interesting though.

GM uses BG products as well. The Ford tranny's were junk anyways.
They finally fix most of their tranny issues when they came out with the new F-150 body style in 04'.
My mom's 5.4L 2001 F-150 crewcab's tranny failed 3 times before 60K. The Ford dealership fixed it all 3 times. It failed again at 76,000mi, just a bit over the ext warranty. Ford would not warranty it.

yeah i must say , even though i work for ford i have always been a chevy man , but when ford came out with the new f 150's i was really impressed, with the whole vehicle, if only that 5.4 had some more humph to it. ford changed from the old style 5.4 32valve motors that they had in the navigators to the new style 3valve motors because of to many warranty head jobs and motor jobs due to faulty design in the heads, dealing with the valves mainly. the new motor is more torquier but not as responsive in my opinion and definatley has a minus in the get up and go department. .. we don t see alot of f150 tranny problems, unless the normal high milage rebuilds, but we do see alot of problems with the ol explorers.ford is kinda chenchy on their warranty at times, thats why alot of people buy from an aftermarket warranty company.
