Default Trans temp gauge?

I am looking to buy a Autometer Cobalt trans temp guage and they offer two of them. One is a short sweep that looks like a factory gauge and the other is a long sweep that would be a lot more accurate. My question is that the price is substantually different between the two and I would like to save some cash on this gauge if I really don't need the long sweep. What do you guys think? Would the short sweep be good enough or do I need the long sweep?

You can always just swap to an SSS or Escalade cluster and not have to deal with plubing or wiring.

That's what I want to do but I haven't found a good deal on one. Does anybody have a part number for the Escalade cluster that works for a 01 Silverado?

Do you have the mechanical or the electric short sweep?

currrently, they only offer short sweep electrical or full sweep electrical (there is no mechanical offering).

I'm not sure exactly why the full sweep costs twice as much, though.

You should be just fine with the short sweep. I have a short sweep Phantom and I like it very much. There is no downside to having it.

That's good to know. I ordered the Cobalt short sweep last night along with a PLX wideband and Cobalt fuel pressure gauge. Things are finally starting to come together with my setup.
