Im sure any fluid is fine in a trans. Me personally I run synthetic in EVERYTHING I own. my lawnmowers have either Royal Purple or Mobil 1 in them. I am currently running AMSOil in my truck through out. I love the stuff. Yes its expensive but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I just run Castrol Dex III and keep it clean. Since I have a drain plug on my plan, I usually change about 3-4 quarts every oil change.

Yes, it does make the shift slightly firmer, I have done a before and after and its not a huge difference, but it works. They also do have a synthetic version of it i believe.

If it is because of a high amount of zinc i wonder if it has any long term affects on the clutches.

Advanced auto parts store brand dex3 here. No problems. No reason to buy an expensive trans fluid. Trans fluid is a detergent and doesn't break down like motor oil...

just like Sc00by in the same way, syntetic in everything, as for the new oil im sure it wont make a difference but i have ocd about having almost eveything in my truck synthetic and having one thing that isnt lol...as for AMSoil i love the stuff, i either use that or royal purple in my nova, as for the truck she gets the full mobil1 oil deal, front and rear diff n motor...now trannys time, what im stuck on is i can get that amsoil trans fluid for wholesale since my boss is a dealer, but from the guys we know who race and have full out mud trucks...they swear by the tci, supposedly its the least prone to foam at high revs, not to mention firms up the shifts, i dont think i need that with how my trans is set up though lol

I run synthetic oil in my engine, mainly because I can run 7k miles on an oil change with a turbo truck. However, I use the $9.77/gallon supertech trans fluid in my trans with no worries. I have talked to Frank @ performabuilt about what to use, he said and dex rated fluid is all you need, and no additives like lucas etc... Like I said, my level 2 60e has withstood 35k miles of 650hp, 4wd boosted launching, 10k pound trailer pulling abuse with no complaints running this stuff. As long as it meets the criteria to be certified as dexIII, it is of no less quality than any other brand of dexIII. Marketing hype is proven EXTREMELY effective at swaying people to one brand or another based on nothing but good advertising.

Sorry, but I didn't read anywhere that you had a deep pan installed. The deep pan normally holds another quart of fluid.

As far as how hot? I normally see my trans temp within 10-20 degrees cooler than my engine temp. My truck didn't come with a trans temp gauge either, and TooTall installed an Aero Force gauge for me in the overhead organizer(?). I have the gauge set to read engine temp and trans temp. It's all digital plug and play.
