Default which tranny would be funner?

5 speed probably isn't going to last much longer and i'm torn on my new tranny decision. would like to stay around $3000. t56 is ruled out (cost to much to get rated 600lb tq. and have no use in 2x od. don't want to fool w/ 4l80 swap. i love the sound of a th400 manual shift w/ transbrake. would be ideal for the track and overall faster. don't spend much time at the track tho and a manual is so fun on the street. leaning towards a tremec tko600. i know they are originally made for fords, but there are complete ls1 kits for around 3k. they are strong as hell too. has anyone ever drove something w/ one in it. wonder if they shift as smooth as t56?

imo id think you would run into similar issues with the tko as you would with the t56 when its in a truck. i know some guys who swear by the tko's but they are in very light cars. do you need OD? because a th400 is going to be killer on the highway but also a **** load of fun with the mvb. a 4l80e with a mvb would be fun also and give you OD

TH400 swap w/transbrake is just as much (if not more) work than a 4L80E swap....

Neither of those manual transmissions will last long in a truck with any power.

no need for od. 4l80 will require tuning. my truck is far from a dd, it only sees maybe 1000 miles a year. what makes you think a tko 600 won't hold up? seen guys stick 800-1000 hp big blocks behind them.

You could investigate an HD manual
