Based on the data you gave and assuming 10% converter slip you should be crossing the finish line around 5500 rpm at 130mph.

If your at 6500 at 130 mph, then you have about 30.5% slip, either in the converter or trans which is a lot.

I'd say you have a problem somewhere

on the passes where i trap 130-133 im about 6500 if i remember correctly. thats with about a 3600 circleD stall, 28" tires and 3.73 gears

Yeah looks like everything is pointing towards the converter, the tranny fluid looks good so ill take the stall out and get it tightned up some... Blah, thanks again!

It sounds to me like it's time for a more efficient converter. I'd bet you'll notice a nice gain in ET. :)

Never been a big fan of midwest converters.

Vince im about to be right there with ya! Got the truck out of the shop today just to see what i could go up to on the transbrake with no 2 step and it ramped right up to 4800-4900 rpms.... Im almost at a loss of what to do, do i want a converter thats loose to build boost off the line or do i want a tighter converter to MPH higher?! I really dont know the happy point in this scenerio and sure wish i had the coin for a Neal Chance or other big name converter company... I did look at my old logs with the 4l80e in the truck and it was doing 130mph at 5500 rpms so that pretty much tells me its in the converter, i miss my 80e converter lol but it was harder to make boost on the line with because it would only trans brake about 3400-3600

The ideal thing to have is a loose converter to build boost off the trans brake then lock it up once you get going. Problem is locking a high-stall loose converter is extremely stressful on the converter, especally with a high power setup.

With that in mind, yank is now making a multidisk 80e converter that looks enticing...
PI has a 3 and 5 clutch 80e converter...
Circle D has a "break it if you can" moto on their multi clutch 80e converters...

Is there a way to use a lockup 80E converter in a TH400?

Vince B 01-31-2012 05:53 PM

^No they are totally different.

Swerve7rpm2000 01-31-2012 07:42 PM

You can get lockup for a th400 but it cost a pretty penny lol, alot of the big promod and outlaw guys are doing it with th400 and powerglides
