Default tranny problems

the rear end blew out awhile back, finaly fixed it and now the truck will not start off in drive or 3, it will start off in 1, 2, and i can shift into 3, and drive after it gets up to speed, it also squells when downshifting for passing gear, wondering if someone else has had this problem and can tell me if a seliniod is sticking, stuck, of if something broke when the rear end exploded, the rear exploded leaving a stop at a slow speed i wasn't hammering on it.

Foward Sprag is busted. It locks the foward clutches (used in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th) to the Input Sun Gear and unlocks on decel. When you put it in manual 1st and 2nd, the overrun clutches apply which were designed to prevent the foward sprag from overruning on decel, so its these clutches that are allowing you to accelerate in these gears. Once you reach high enough speeds for third gear and you upshift it, the overruns stay applied. 4th gear does not need them, so you could upshift again and have 4th.

The only fix for this is to remove the transmission and have the sprag assembly replaced. You can "upgrade" just the sprag elements, but when the sprag breaks, it usually damages the inner & outer races, which is why I said replace the sprag "assembly".

Hope this helps.
