someone give me a quick explanation of why it has to flow through the radiator?

last I checked tranny fluid is hyd fluid yes? and the fluid in the rad is antifreeze/water no? wouldn't they mix and fvk sht up? or is there a separate chamber?

now what would happen if I hooked the lines up from the tranny to the cooler then back to the tranny?

I don't have my truck right now but I was wondering the trannies already have plugs on them to add an aftermarket cooler?

ALSO! what do they jmean by 40K GVW? I thought my truck only weighed 7K LB's.. I'm confused

sorry for the dum bquestions

Hey...Radiators have end caps on them...which are actaully where the stock tranny fluid is cooled on most trucks. It doenst mix with the Coolant, its a sepreate compartment.

The reason why u want to run it from the rad-to tran cooler-back to tranny is because u obviosuly dont want it getting hot...but at the same time...you dont want it super cold..so run it through the stock cooler on the rad to bring it up in temps...then to the external to cool it down a bit....

did i jsut confuse u more?

Also, If you're towing through the city on a hot summer day, in stop and go traffic, the air exchange coolers won't do much for you. They rely on air flowing through the fins of the cooler. The radiator side cooler has the engine fan and coolant temp. to help cool the tranny fluid. I'm running three coolers- the radiator and stock plate cooler and a Perma-cool 30K mounted in series up front. I'm always running cool and will sacrifice a little fuel economy (IF that's true) over replacing these POS 4L60Es.

ok so basically I am adding an additional cooler to the tranny and replacing the old tranny lines with the new ones yes? I'm assuming when I get under the truck I will see what the deal is right?
