Tranny for a 6.0
#1
What do you guys suggest as a transmission to go with a 6.0. I have a freshly rebuilt 60e. With less than 100 miles on it now could I keep it with a few added parts to it like a servo, shift kit etc.. and have it hold up to the 6.0 or should I swap trannys also. If so what do I need? The 80e? If so what should I put in the 80e?,and what would I have to have done to it to install it in place of the 60e ie: mounts, tailshaft, driveshaft, linkage, etc? As far as computers I can just get mine re tuned to this motor right? This motor should mount on the existing motor mounts correct? By the way its a 1999 silverado 2 wd 4.8 right now. Thanks again fellas!!!!

The 80e will be a far better tranny than the 60e. To upgrade your 60e you will need to install 5 pinion planetaries, hardend shafts and get the piston machined to install another steel and friction plate in clutch packs, or just by a 4L65E which will cost you the same as 4L80e. The only downside to the 80e tranny is the high first gear (2.48), while the 60e and 65e have a 3.06 first gear.
Check this out for the 60e to 80e swap.
Check out this web site for 4L65E.

If youor gonna stay N/A, I would advise you to stay away from the 80. First and second gear suck ***. Yes it is stronger but it eats alot of power in the process. Now if you are gonna put a blower or turbo on that motor, the 80 is the only right choice.
You have to buy and do alot mroe work to put in a 4L80, so keep that in mind. A good WELL built 4L65 would work for what you want.
