Default towing with t56

I currently have a GTO t56 in a 99 silverado with 4.56 gears. Im using a stock corvette clutch and pressure plate.

Is there any downside to me towing my chevelle with this tranny.

The chevelle and trailer are probably right at 5000 lbs.

Should I stay out of the overdrives (5 and 6th) at cruise?

Just keep your shifts under 2k and try to stay out of 6th gear. Since your towing I doubt youll be trying to shift that high anyways. I know Centerforce's clutches are very good for towing. You might consider at least swapping out your clutch.

I would recommend going no higher than 4th gear, thats a LOT of weight and you will leak power at the clutch (slip) in the higher gears. A stock Corvette clutch has a lot of pressure...for a Corvette. In a truck you get about the same performance as a manual Subaru has.

Seems like most concerns is for the clutch itself. Any concerns for the internal componets of the tranny. Like 5th or 6th gear?

You'll exceed the limitations of the clutch before you exceed the gearset, unless you put in a super strong clutch and pop the shifts.

I *think* 5th gear is the weak spot in the T56 transmission due to internal stresses.
