Default T56 + what gears????

I'm asking for a friend of mine... its all going into his '90 Rustang GT fivepointslow... he's trying to keep some kind of driveability but be able to launch it hard on some slicks or DR's.... I suggested 4.88's with the deep *** overdrive but the general population is going with 4.56's.... he says anything over 15mpg would be fine with him....

Sorry to post a ferd question but we need some answers.

I run 4.11s in my Z28. Not sure what the ratio is on the Ford T-56, but in my car I believe it's .5:1. That with 26" tires I can run down the highway at 70 turning about 2000RPM. The 4.11s are enough that with a 255/50-16 Drag radial I can get both front wheels up with just bolt on mods. FWIW

on another website, I recomended he run 4.10's also but apparently the guy will be running larger than stock tires(28 to 29 is what silver-mod-o said)

With taller tires I'd definitely go with something higher.

There's too many variables involved in gear selection. We need more info. If he's using a turbo then 4.XX will be a waste of time, but if he's using a centrfi or N/A then things are different. What's the intended use? Like Quik said, he needs to spend a few hours with a gear calculator to see what he wants/likes.

its going to be a 331/347 nitrous motor... just for street/strip use. we're planning on a mini-tub job so he can put some real tires under it. the car is tippin the scales at about 3200lbs... (guestimation) occasionally, its going to see the highway for some extended periods of time so a little cruisability would be a good thing... even if its kinda stretching the idea of what you would call "friendly"
