bgray, thanks very much for your input. I am interested to see how the transmission holds up after the procharger goes on. I am thinking a TVS setup in the future so I am trying to base all my supporting mods off that goal. One thing I don't want to do, and cant afford to do quite frankly, is spend money on parts that I will have to replace later down the road. That is why I am trying to get an idea of the reliability and longevity of the T56 behind some power. Plus I want it to be enjoyable to drive, not a burden so it seems like it will be hard to have both given the upgraded clutch setup that would be needed.......

if you ***** foot it around the trans should hold up to some power, I no lift shifted my truck and only way to get the best time from a manual

another thing you need to realize when doing th T56 swap you need to have a extended shifter rod..this creates alot of additional force on everything that is connected to the shifter...

now some ppl use a car shifter and no console, that looks shitty. My setup came up thru the tahoe console and used a leather booty from a Fbody in the consoles center section

its not a cheap path to go down, used Fbody T56 sell 1500-2200 depending on mileage, then add in clutch this right here is the basic as your 4l60 driveshaft will connect the two

next after you break the stock DS with power youll need a new one
now if you go aftermarket main shaft you will need another yoke since for example the viper mainshaft is larger and has more splines then the stocker

budget built 4l80 and converter you can be into for 2500 and hold plenty of power

but it is a fun mod on a very low power setup

I thought twin disk clutches like the street slayer, monster lt1-sc, and others drive very mildly, but still hold good power. The monster lt1-sc uses a stock c7 twin disk unit for example.

I have a T56 magnum, totally diofferent then a standard t56 as far as power poteintial goes. Plus mine is a level 6 conversion from RPM

L7Magnum fbody

RPM said they regularly use this trans behind 1000-1200whp. So i should be ok with 550-600

Also had to converter front yoke to 31 spline, so i need a combination u joint also.

You could always consider a nv4500 since it was made for a big heavy truck. Probably not as fun to rip through gears but it beats an automagic

The gearing on the NVG4500 and the other 6 speed truck transmissions are awful, though. It might work on second thought but I wasn't a huge fan of the gears.

NVG4500
1 2 3 4 5 R
6.34 (1993) 5.61 (1994 on) 3.44 1.71 1.00 0.73 6.34 (1993) 5.61 (1994 on)
Even towing heavy trailers I am not sure I need a 6.34 first gear!

ZF S6-650
L 1 2 3 4 5 R
5.79 3.31 2.10 1.31 1.00 0.72 5.23

4L80E
1 2 3 4 R
2.48 1.48 1.00 0.75 2.07

Man I bet that transmission is sweet. Problem for me is I could buy two built 4L80e's for that price. From what I have researched clutch wise it looks like I could buy a stock 4L80e and shift kit for the price of an upgraded aftermarket clutch set as well.......I think the T56 is too rich for my blood if I cant run it stock.

That was really what I wanted to know, if a stock T56 would be an upgrade from a 4L60e in power handling. Sounds like it wouldn't be much of an upgrade but would cost a lot more than an 80e swap....

What clutch are you running bgray?
