Ok, well my current rearend is pretty much sold, he's just waiting on me to pull it out. I'm placing my order tomorrow for my new 14 Bolt SF rearend with 4.10's GM Part #15806746. I'm going to keep the drums in the rear so I can run some 15" wheels at the track. From what I've read and talked to a few people about, my existing brake lines will bolt up to the new rear. The e-brake cables are supposed to be the same as well. I'm going to need a bastard u-joint and found the part # Neapco part # 2-1153. Is there anything else I should need? Is the part # for the u-joint correct? I read that the pinion might be upwards and that I need to shim the new rear to fix the pinion angle. Can someone confirm or deny any of this info? Also, is the Neapco u-joint a strong one? I want one that wont break. Thanks in advance

*EDIT* For anyone doing this swap into a reg cab like me, the e-brake cables are different. You can extend your existing cabels as Quick mentioned below, or you can order the correct cabels from GM. The part numbers needed for a reg cab are:
15222144 LH
15204020 RH

 

yes my pinion is nose high i will need to use shims to bring it down some. i also had to use the bastard ujoint but not sure the number. just told napa what was needed. actually mater did that part for me. the ujoint from my understanding has been around for long time now

you can run 15" wheels with disks out back. i have with the 10bolt and will continues to do the same with the 14bolt. since the 14bolt now has my 10 bolt brakes on it.

ebrakes are short. you will have to use 2 pieces of all thread to lenghten the cables to work with the front piece. unless you put your lines on it. since a ext cable has shorter cables then a rcsb

 

Well I'm going to use my existing e-brake cables so I should be ok right? Do you think 2* shims will work or is going to take more like a 3* shim? Thanks for the info.

 

do you have drums now? if so youll be fine. if you ahve disks i think the cables are different
yea i was going to try a set of shims that beastmode has for me. i beleive they are 2"
im going to shim till my pinion is neg so when i go to launch it then goes alittle pos

if your pos now and hten go ot hook and it becomes more pos it isnt as effeicent at hooking as it would be how i spoke

yep anytime. yay youll run a piece of all thread from the front to where the cables intersect their bracket

just use your disk setup. its a walk in the park on how easy it is to use disk on the 14bolt

 

So you're buying a complete new rear end from GM? Do they come with any other gear sets? Won't that still have a gov-lok in it? Forgive my ignorance, but the 14 bolt thing is new territory to me.

 

if you get the 14bolt from a pick up it will have the G80 locker in it

you can swap in a TBSS/SSR carrier that is a G86 which is a true posi. in future if i gernade my G80 i plan on going G86

Here are my questions I am thinking my ebrake cables and brake lines are exactly the same. My only concern is I see how the Ebrake mounts on the disk brake and I do believe the cable from the drum should clip on to the disk rear right? I used my Joe Gibbs truck as a guide.

 

So you're stuck with factory posi units? The aftermarket doesn't make them for this rear yet? I think you will most definatley grenade that G80 if it's designed like the 10 bolt G80. Does the aftermarket make any ring and pinions for them yet?

What does pn 15806746 cost from a stealership?
