Street 4l60
#1
I have questions for everyone running a 4l60 on the street. I know if I plan on going with slicks and spending every weekend at the track it is going to go kaboom.
I plan on getting the 60E built and running the truck thruster 2600 converter and a cam to match. So without slicks and huge stall how many people are out there running a 4l60 on the street with no issues? This is a daily driver that I want to have some fun with and still be able to use it for "truck things". Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I was just on Yanks website and saw a 4l70e transmission. I have been out of the GM game for a long time, are these just an upgraded 60E?

what is in front of the 60E? i have killed 3 "built" 60E's and the engine had just a few bolt ons and a tune. this 4th 60E was killed by my stroker motor. buy 1 4L80E and never worry about it again. i could have bought 2 stage 3 4L80's for what i have spent on that POS 60E.

truck has only been to the track maybe 3 times in her life. all street driving no heavy towing more than 3000 pounds. i do have a heavy foot but nothing that should have destroyed that many transmissions.

My 60e or 65e or 70e or whatevers in my truck has 103k miles on it with a cammed 4.8 and a 3200 stall. I did change the tranny filter twice once at 50k and the other just recently at 100k. I have been to the track and have run it 8 times back to back several times nearly within minutes (track was kinda emty). The truck has at least 80+ runs like that but if the tranny temp reaches 180 I leave it alone. I do have 2 small coolers in parrallel and the temps dont go above 140 during summer on the highway. It doesnt tow but has carried several motors and trannies and I do drive it agressively going from 4th to 2nd gear several times. Ive heard of several guys blowing them up on stock motors and I dont know why or how but Nelson Performance tuned mine at 30k and it still chrips the tires from 1st to 2nd. Also the truck has never seen slicks on the rear axle. Sorry for the long post but mine has survived where others have failed lol.

It's because your truck is a featherweight LOL.
As far as the 70E, yes it's just an upgraded 60E. I don't know the exact improvements, but I don't think it's much more than a 65E.
A 70E also has an ISS whereas the 60E does not.

Thanks for the info guys. I mainly drive like an old man to and from work but I guess I will just run the stock tranny until it breaks then make a decision. I am used to running glass transmissions in volkswagens so this isn't anything new to me lol.

I had a fully built 65e live behind my setup until last year when I did the 80e. Granted my truck only sees about 2-3k a year max. It had wieght and power, it's all about the built. That being said, I never plan to run a 60 series again as I much prefer the 80e.
